Thomas Edison vs Nikola Tesla

When Nikola Tesla arrived in the US in 1884, he worked as an assistant to Thomas Edison, Tesla was then in his late 30's. Thomas Edison had just invented the light bulb and needed a system through which to deliver electricity to homes.

Thomas Edison designed a DC current system for it but it didn't work as well as he had hoped. Thomas Edison promised Tesla a lot of money in bonuses if he could find a better system or work out the problems with his DC system. Tesla succeeded and delivered the new system to Edison, Edison then refused to pay him any money. Nikola Tesla quit being Edison's assitant shortly after that. Edison then spent the rest of his life doing his best to discredit Nikola Tesla, and this is why Tesla is not well known today by the mainstream public.

After Tesla had designed his AC current, Edison tried to discredit Tesla by demonstrating that AC current was more dangerous then DC current. The truth is that DC current is much more dangerous then AC current.

Edison did many things to discredit Tesla, and it seems that it may have worked. Tesla is not mentioned much in textbooks given to students, instead we find the names Marconi, Edison, and others.
